My name is Ebony....I came to SC when my owner died and no one in the family wanted to take me in.....age was a factor for everyone except SC and my new MOM, Natalie.  I was not very happy at all the changes.  I lived a great life with my owner and in a blink of an eye it was gone.  Although SC gave me love and shelter while I was looking for a new home, I didn't make it easy.  I would hiss, snarl and just not cooperate....Along came my new MOM, Natalie, she took me in and understood that I needed time to adjust and feel loved again.....and I do feel loved....and now I can love again....Thank you SC and MOM for giving me a second chance.

HI !! ALL.....my name is Turly alias Creamsickle, Captain Chaos, Little T., Mr. T.
Here are pictures of my latest shinanigans!   I have brothers Joey and Steve.........Steve is my best friend now, he just LOVES me!  (even when I creep up on him from behind and jump on his head).  Steve and I are always together.  We like to sit and neighborhood watch out the windows and doors together and we go on lots of hunting adventures for stuffed mice together.  Honestly, I don't know what he did here without me!

Although its not all fun for me, I am a working kitty.  I have to keep my parents organized........

They keep me very busy...I have to catch a nap at lunch time....and they are very strict about being neat and clean....

All in all, I love my new home, although I miss my foster parents and the shelter kitties and wish they all find homes like mine, minus the work, of course......here is how I sum up my day.............

My name is Laci Jane.  I was born in foster at SC to a mom that was not too friendly.  I was barely 2 lbs. when I found my forever home.  My mom is so great.  She just loved me at first site.  I have a big sister, Phoebe, who sometimes treats me like a kid.  Always trying to keep me clean when a little dirt never hurt me before.....but I know she loves me....it took only a few days for her to see that I was moving in permanently and made me feel real welcome...mom helped make the adjustment real easy....Thank you for helping me find the greatest home ever........

My name is Bella (Fiona) to my SC family.  I am a ragdoll mix.  I came to SC as an orphan 1 lb. babe.  As you can see I am no longer a babe, well to my mom I am; I am almost a year old.  I love my new home, there is so much to explore, especially the basement.....that is where I store all my treasures....like pens, toy mice, balls....I have two brothers, who clearly understand that I am the queen of this roost.  Although sometimes when I tease Bourbon too much he reminds me that he is older....Bandit is a real push over and scardy cat and fun to tease......I want you all to know that I am very happy that SC found me and helped me find my forever home...everyone here loves me and I love them.........

Hi, I am Simone...my new family kept my Second Chance name but added "Lady" in the front to make me extra fancy, which of course I deeply deserve.  I made alot of friends when I was a foster cat but now I am truely in my forever home.  Here is a picture of me on the very second evening, snuggled down in the big cushy green pillow on the edge of my true caretaker's bed.  It was my idea to come out and make myself at home, despite the mom's willingness to keep me separate for a few days and get me slowly used to my new house.  My true caretaker and lovely friend is an almost-7-year-old girl who loves me to bits and pieces.  She calls me "cushy cat" and reads me stories, brushes me, feeds me, and puts lovely chunks of ice in my water on hot days.  She sings my praises to anyone who will listen and tells them about Second Chance and the places they can find their feline best friends too.  The girl's parents are quite nice also and they keep an eye out to make sure everything's fine. I always stay with my little friend after bedtime stories until she falls asleep, then I join the grown-ups for a movie or t.v. downstairs.  If she gets scared of thunder and lightning I simply snuggled closer to her until she giggles from my cushy tickles.  I sleep on my green pillow at the edge of the little girl's bed and when we get up in the morning we rush down to play LEGOS (I love to bat around the roundish pieces!) and lots of chasing games.  I came to this family with a little foster brother Roy/Jacob.  He is quite shy, too shy for a picture yet, but always stays under the bed for storytime and is coming out more and more each day and doesn't run away when the humans say "Hi, Spooky!" (his new name, short for Lord Spooky).  He LOVES running up and down the stairs and has bonded with the dad of the house best.  They sometimes have a big snuggle when all of us ladies/girls have gone to sleep.  Already at our house was a 17-year old cat who lost her feline life partner over a year ago and it's about time she had some feline companions!  She was not so friendly at first but after a few days accepted us and is now very calm and welcoming.

Thank you Second Chance vets and volunteers for not giving up on me.  I am very much part of the family here and if you had given up on me I never would have know how this all feels...wonderful!

from your friends...Lady Simone and Lord Spooky Oldfield

My name is Onyx (Lynsey) to all my SC family who took care of me in foster and Petsmart while I waited for my forever home.....and I do mean waited....However, the wait was worth it....Momma Lynda is quite a lady...within a short period of coming to live with my new family they brought brother Callie in from the outside to give him a home......... and that's when things started to go down hill.  All of us had to have booster shots for leukemia and I don't think I liked that.  I had some kind of reaction or such and didn't feel like eating.  Momma Lynda went into a frenzy cause I started to loose weight and my beautiful shape and I fought her "tooth and nail" when she tried to force feed me.......I was going to death's door and she still wouldn't give up on me.....she nursed me literally back to health......as you can see from my pic, my beautiful figure is back, as is my ornery disposition.  But that is how my Momma Lynda loves me....Thank you SC for finding Momma Lynda for me.

Second Chance,

I had only one cat, Icky, for 3 years and he got very attached to me. When I started working two jobs, I decided he needed a little brother. That's when I found Second Chance. I adopted Eli and my Icky had found himself a best friend and brother to keep him company all day and nite. They were best of friends, slept together, played together, walked together... they did everything together like two little shadows. Eli was always Icky's cat, never really my cat. He just clung to his feline buddy. This past January, Icky died of heart failure. He was very close to me and I miss him terribly. Eli was just as lost as I was. I couldn't wait and had to get Eli a kitten of his own to keep him company. So, I turned to Second Chance again. I found a kitten I wanted and when I went to pick him up I fell in love with his next door neighbor in the cages too... I just had to bring them both home. So, I convinced my mother to take the other lil guy. Icky will be forever missed, but our home & hearts are filled with our 3 lil boys from Second Chance. Eli (black), Piper (orange tiger) and Winston (white) are very thankful to Second Chance for finding them their forever home.

Charlotte

Thank you so much, Second Chance, for this wonderful addition to our family!  Charlotte is the friendliest kitty we have ever met!  We feel so fortunate to have found her!  And we are grateful to all the volunteers at Second Chance for giving their time and compassion to these pets! I am soo glad I saw her at Petsmart that day!  She has fit in soo well here!  Charlotte will be loved and cared for all the days of her life instead of wandering the streets...she deserves that because she is so sweet!  Thank you again!  Mary and Robert and Jill

 Meet Bella Reynders!
Bella came to our shelter as a wee little thing and grew to be a real character.  She and her siblings loved to run, play and wrestle all the time.  Bella went into be spayed and hit the jackpot, she was adopted by the mom and dad of our veterinarian, Dr. Mary Lisa Reynders!  Not only does she have a wonderful home where she is loved and cherished, she has a vet right in the family.  Thanks to the Reynders family for loving Bella.

                             SERENA
You won't remember me by name from over 4 years ago when I came to Williamsville to go to school; we never met face to face.  You had placed 3 sibling kittens in Petsmart in August 2005, named Peanut, Butter, and Jelly.

Jelly is now named Serena, and is a large black tortoise shell short-haired domestic feline in the prime of her youth, with not a clue as to how beautiful she truly has become.  She kept her eyes green for me, and I couldn't adore her more.  I never tire of her, and always miss her when I'm away.  She gets good vet care, has had her teeth cleaned once now (She'll be 5 at end of May), one molar extracted, and I believe she is very well-adjusted because of the way she sleeps in any floor on her back, tummy fully exposed.  She's allowed a tiny spoon twice a day of canned Alaskan salmon (Human stuff), which gives her a treat to look forward to, and is as sweet a cat and as full of expression and communication as anyone could hope for.

This has been a sad and difficult year for most of us; I'm glad Serena (she goes by "Pooh") most of the time has been with me to always know when I need to be cared for - I just thought you might like to hear that at least one of your heroic efforts to make a difference has truly become an intelligent, happy, people-loving beauty who really enjoys life.

Thank you for saving her, and for making it possible for me to know so much love.

God Bless You with a wonderful New Year,

Mark McDill and Serena

Romeo

Hello to all fellow cats of Second Chance and pet owners!
Some of you may remember me and my 2 siblings. My name is Romeo.  We all looked the same and came into Second Chance about a year ago as little kittens. My brother 'Prince' and my sister 'Yvonne' got adopted quite quickly. I was alone for a few months, and wondered if I would ever find someone to adopt me! I was moved around from store to store in the hopes that the right person would want me. Then, one day my wish came true! I was adopted and life in my cage is a thing of the past! I love my forever home. I am allowed to run and play every day. I also love to snuggle with my human 'mom'. She kept my name-Romeo- because she says it fits me all too well! One of my most favorite things to do is watch the birds out of the window at my home. I just wanted to let all of you know that I am doing quite well, and am so thankful to Second Chance for giving me proper care,  hope and lots of love!

Wrigley's Space                                                                Treat Time for Wrigley & Sis

All My Dear Friends.

Let me start by thanking all of you for your love, tender caring and
continued support during my tough times. It's because of all your?tireless
efforts that I have now found me a home to last a lifetime.? I also wish to
thank you all for the telephone calls. It means a great deal knowing that I
mean so much to all of you.

My dad is a wonderful critter lover, who has helped a great many strays
over the years. In fact, besides my dad, I am living with 2 stepsisters, 7 year
old "Bonnet" and 9 year old "Skye". Both have accepted me into the family; and
have made my transition easy. In fact, within the very first week of my
adoption, my stepsisters and I were all sleeping quite nicely on dad's bed. It
doesn't leave much room for him; but it sure is comfortable.

I must say that I have felt quite relaxed here; and I took no time in
making myself feel right at home. Of course, I spent 2 days in "quarantine";
but dad felt I was ready; and suddenly the house was all mine to explore. My
new home has 2 window seats just for us cats; and a French door to the deck
which allows for long days of sunshine and watching the world go by.  My
stepsister Bonnet has also shown me her "secret" hiding space next to the heat
ducts in the basement rafters; and her comfy wicker basket next to the living
room shelves and heat vent.
Skye too has been helpful in many ways.  She always wants to be a part of
the action when the kitty play things come out.  We even share our snacks.

In closing, again let me simply say THANKS!  I want you all to know that
you are thought of with love and deep appreciation.  I hope you enjoy the
photographs.  Dad is a great guy; but needs a little work when it comes to
cameras.

Please keep up the good work; and may God continue to bless you all.

Love always,

Wrigley

This is a email sent to us by Wrigley (our Second Chance Kitties Are Very Smart)

Hope Marie

Sweet Vinnie

Hope Marie (as she is known when she is being a less than gracious sister to Vinnie) and her "brother" hit the lottery when they were adopted by the Bohn Family.  The had become orphans when their owner died and we took them in.  As you can see, Vinnie is going on 11 years old and is as handsome as he ever was.  Thank you to the Bohn Family for adopting Hope and Vinnie!

Lucy   and  Ethel

Hi! My name is Lucy, I'm one of your rescue cats, and I'm writing you to tell you about my success story. You see I was adopted by a real nice person named Cheryl about 3 years ago. I wasn't real pretty then, you see I had just had a litter of kittens, Had surgery so I wouldn't have anymore kittens and also had to have an eye removed because I had and infection. But for some reason she decided to take me home, later she told be she was afraid if she didn't take me no one else would. I also found out Cheryl had another rescue cat for almost 22 year before me. She missed her old cat, Higbie, and decided to adopt me. Well did I hit the jackpot, We hit it off right away, she had a real nice house, and even put up a bird feeder so I could watch the birds. We're now best friends forever (B.F.F.).  I'm a real friendly cat too, I love everybody. My person says if I could get a job, I should be a greater at Walmart. When people come to visit, I just give them that sad one-eyed kitty look and they fall for it every time. They're scratching my head and rubbing my belly before they know what hit them.  Then about 6 months ago my person decided I should have a friend, because she's not home a lot and didn't want me to be lonely. So she called her friend Cheryl Christler and had her looking for a new friend for us to adopt us. Shortly before Christmas, Onyx came to live with us. We renamed Onyx, ETHEL, because my person love I LOVE LUCY. So know we're LUCY and ETHEL. Well it was a challenge at first. I was not used to sharing my home, and Ethel was very shy, talk about your scardy cat!  Ethel was in 3 different store in one year waiting to me adopted, can you image living in a cage for a full year. Well it was not love at first sight for the two of us, but my person must have the patience of a saint, because Ethel and I are now B.F.F's. We chase each other and play together, I'm much bigger than her so I can really flatten her, but she's a lot faster than I am. Ethel is a very good cat too. I'm teaching her the rules of the house. Don't scratch furniture, and don't jump up on the kitchen table or counter.  My person says she should have named us Oscar and Felix, after the Odd Couple. Ethel is very neat and always washing and cleaning, and I am not, My whole life is a bad hair day. Hey I'm very furry, How am I supposed to know there's a post-it note or a Christmas bow stuck on my back side. Well we are doing very well in our new home and we love it here. We are so glad we got a SECOND CHANCE.

Please Keep Eric in Your Prayers
While He is Fighting to Protect Our Freedom So He Returns Home Safely to Melissa and His
Cherished Pets!

Gage and JP

I just wanted you to know how much Eric and I love and adore "Gage" and "JP" -- whom we named Seamus and Calvin, respectively. Calvin, if you'll remember, was a very quiet, extremely timid tiny grey kitten, and I chose him specifically because he needed someone to show him that he was special and loved, and I wanted to be the one to make him a trusting kitty once again. Well, he far surpassed anything I could have hoped! It took about a week and a half for him to not run away from footsteps, but now he is the best little cuddlebug in the world. He and Seamus cuddle with each other, too...in fact, they warmed up to each other immediately and are the very best of friends! They play together whenever they're not snoozing, and even give each other baths -- that's love right there!

Thank you so much for choosing Eric and I to be parents of such amazing and loving cats. We treat them like our kids, and every night when Eric calls from Iraq they come running to where I am so they can purr on the phone to Daddy (Seamus has the loudest motor ever!). Thank you once again. I hope this finds you well and enjoying your holiday season so far. Good luck with everything you take on in the next year...and know that there are hundreds of people like us who are so appreciative of your endeavors and for helping up expand our 'family'.

Take care, Melissa Hoy

Ronon and Brother Teal'c

Ronon (aka Hansel)

Ronon and Brother Pumpkin
Ronon came to us from the Buffalo Shelter with His Sibling Hansel.  He was adopted into a wonderful family that had other kitties for him to play with and love. As you can see, he is living life to its fullest.
Thanks to the Karpp Family for loving Ronon!

Jessica Rose came to Second Chance from the Buffalo City Animal Shelter.  She was found laying in a cemetery in Lackawanna, cold, hungry and unable to move.  A kind person took her to the shelter and they called us.  After a thorough medical exam and x-rays, it was determined she had an old injury that was not treated and she had fallen from a height that had inflamed her injury again.  After being nursed back to health in a foster home, she was put up for adoption.  Jessica Rose hit the lottery.  She was adopted into a loving home with her siblings who not only welcomed her with open "paws" but taught her all the "tricks" of playing in the bathtub and also oral hygiene in the sink!!
Thank you Kory for this very happy ending for such a wonderful kitty.

Ralphie

Ralphie became a member of our family in Nov. 2006. He is a little sweetheart!!!

He has brought a lot of joy and laughter into our home with his antics.

Our cat Megan has become his adopted Mom. We wouldn't trade him for a million dollars!!!

Henri

                                              Ms. Violet

Ms. Violet came to Second Chance as an older, pregnant, sick and malnourished cat.  Due to her age and condition, she lost her kittens who were born dead.  She recuperated in her foster home until she was ready to look for her "purrfect" new family.  She was at the PETsMART on Amelia Drive for about 3 weeks when her new mom and dad fell in love with her.

She now spends her days watching the seagulls from her special bed in the glass window overlooking Lake Erie.  She has become what Second Chance wishes for all their rescue animals: A Cherished and Loved Pet!

GiGi

Who would possibly want a 10 year old, unspayed female dog whose teeth were rotting out of her head? Second Chance did and we immediately took her  to our veterinarian for the most basic medical care she needed at that time.

She was put into a foster home until our vet felt she was a candidate for surgery and at that time she had all but 6 of her teeth removed and she was spayed.

A wonderful family saw her picture on our website. We set up an interview and a meet and greet at their home and GIGI is now the cherished  pet of the Warner Family in East Aurora.

Anastaysha

When our volunteer, Tina, first saw this precious little pup, she did not look like this. She had been left at the Buffalo City Shelter by her owners because they had a new baby.

She was dirty, matted and terrified. To make matters worse, she was no spring chicken. She had the kind and gentle heart of a young pup, but was almost 9 years old.

What we found when we had her groomed was a beautiful little dog and she was immediately adopted by a family who had just lost their dog to cancer. Another happy Second Chance ending!!

Updates from Pixie's Parents

Pixie

Remember Pixie??  She is our poster "kitty" for what makes all the sacrifices that our volunteers make all worth while!

Pixie was severely abused by her former so called "owner" to such an extent that she had a ruptured eardrum and two broken teeth when we took her.  After many vet visits, lots of tender care and loving, she finally was ready for her own  forever home.  A wonderful family fell in love with her, and as you can see, she is living the good life.  Since our last update on Pixie, she had to have ALL her teeth removed.  Don't worry about Pixie, she is doing well and is loving life even without her teeth.

Another job well done by all the dedicated and caring volunteers at Second Chance!

Sasha

She was nothing special to look at, just another of the many homeless and unloved animals at the local city shelter.  Huddling in the back of her kennel, she barely made eye contact with our volunteer who was trying to get her attention. "C4" as Sasha was then know as, was a mere 22 pounds of frightened and quivering dog unable to walk properly as she had probable been in a crate or cage all her life.

Sasha was immediately taken to our vet, received all the appropriate medical care and put into a foster home.

Sasha, with the guidance of Lori and Carol our foster parents, learned to play, wag her tail and for the first time in her life become a part of a family.  She immediately put on weight and began to blossom into the wonderful dog that on Saturday, October 15th was adopted and went to her new "forever home" to become a cherished and loved pet.

Thank you to the Duckworth Family for adopting and loving Sasha!

From Rags To Riches

It is hard to believe seeing this picture, but Maggie Mae (top) and her kitten, Sweet Melissa (bottom) did not always look this good.  They had not had a very good beginning in life, however, as you can see they are doing just find now as the cherished pets of Mike and Debbie.

Thanks to Mike and Debbie for loving them!
